Ci troviamo allo scoppio di una guerra,
le cui uniche vittime sono gli animali randagi.
E subito si aprono i cancelli dell'inferno ..... Associazioni per la
protezione animale che considerano l'esportazione di animali in
paesi europei, quasi l'unica soluzione per la salvezza, agendo
contro (e non rispettando chi non condivide i loro punti di vista) i
loro "oppositori" - gli "oppositori" che sono tutti coloro che hanno
seri dubbi riguardo alla destinazione finale dei randagi; dubbi
(molto seri) dovuti ad indicazioni di un giornalista - nemmeno a
pensare al governo - che non possono essere ignorati.
Va bene gente, ora torniamo a noi. Anche io sono di Creta, ma non
reagisco in questo modo. Se volete fare un quadro del benessere
animale con le bandiere della guerra, dando i randagi in modo così
ovvio ai veri nemici del benessere animale, quelli che giustamente
un giorno diranno "Fateli fare, si stanno ammazzando tra loro con
guerre tra loro", mi spiace, ma non posso accettarlo. Se d'altra
parte volete organizzare un attacco contro i cittadini mangiatori di
animali per i loro avvelenamenti, gli abbandoni ed i loro rifugi per
guadagni illegali, allora mi troverete schierato dalla vostra parte
nella battaglia e fatemi sapere degli abusi....
Comprendo il disgusto di coloro che pagano di loro tasca e con il
proprio cuore cani quasi morenti. Io simpatizzo e soffro con coloro
che offrono collaborazione volontaria e criticano lo stato che
appare tardi sulla scena, come un profeta dopo Cristo, per
raccogliere premi ora che i randagi sono diventati un argomento di
prim'ordine ed offrono l'opportunità per avere attenzione e voti.
Sono ormai diciotto anni di questo andirivieni ed ho ripetersi
questa situazione con una tale mancanza di originalità che mi viene
da sbadigliare.... Tuttavia.....
Non sono un attivista, non devo convincere nessuno. Non faccio
telefonate anonime, non vado contro legge e non sono coinvolto in
oscure operazioni segrete.
I miei capi non sono coinvolti in attività con cui si fanno soldi
con gli animali, ma ancora più importante, non odio coloro che fanno
lo stesso lavoro con me anche se hanno risultati migliori.
Specialmente se mostrano risultati migliori.
Insegnate ai bambini ad amare gli animali
Credo che l'unica soluzione al problema è ad insegnare ai bambini,
quando sono ancora piccoli, ad amare gli animali poiché dopo è
troppo tardi e di proteggere la nuova legge con una lastra di marco,
che forse ha più buchi dell'Emmenthal, ma è l'unico punto di
partenza civile e vietato a me stesso di esplorarla.
Per quanto riguarda l'esportazione (di animali) in Germania, Belgio
e altri paesi, la mia posizione è stata molto chiara dall'inizio
(vedete, mi mettete in condizioni di scrivere come un politico...):
per la protezione animale, i due paesi hanno un curriculum sporco.
Entrambi i paesi mantengono laboratori di vivisezione (questo non è
un segreto), entrambi operano in modo illegale, dirottando i randagi
per questo scopo. Nella relazione alla Comunità Europea, la Germania
è stato quel paese che ha trasmesso dati falsi per nascondere il
fatto che la sperimentazione nel loro paese negli ultimi anni è
aumentata drasticamente invece di diminuire. In Germania il
rapimento di animali domestici è aumentato in modo così vertiginoso
che il problema è diventato uno dei più importanti punti di
discussione del Governo. Vi chiedete dove vanno a finire gli animali
rubati? presso nuove famiglie "sponsor": io non riesco a credere a
ciò. La Germania ha delle leggi così rigide a riguardo dei randagi
presi e sull'eutanasia per animali non adottati, che il rifugio di
Amburgo è stato soprannominato "Campo di morte". La maggior parte di
animali che esce vivo dai rifugi viene adottato da famiglie
austriache che sono talmente presi dal problema a causa delle
newsletter a riguardo che ricevono.
Per quanto riguarda il Belgio, c'è ancora una questione non chiarita
con la corte europea, poiché fa uso più ampio di eccezione della
direttiva europea pubblicata, con lo scopo di ridurre la
sperimentazione animale. Quaranta Europarlamentari di tutti i paesi
membri hanno accusato il Belgio, presentando un documento che
attesta che nel paese il 50% di animali per la vivisezione
provengono da allevamenti appositi. Il rimanente 50 % "non è
chiaro". E' chiaro cosa significa. Fate correre all'impazzata la
vostra immaginazione.
Un eurodeputato scozzese ha fatto visita ad un pellicciaio in Olanda
e senza rivelargli la sua identità, ha chiesto da dove provenivano
le pelli. Il venditore gli ha "confidato" che erano di cane e gatto.
£I tedeschi sono nostri amici", dice Dimos Starenios nel film eroico
dell'occupazione (tedesca). Può essere. Tuttavia,il giornalista che
non si meraviglia come mai i nostri amici non adottano i loro propri
randagi per salvarli dal Pentothal e coloro che fanno tanti
sacrifici e spendono tanti soli per importare "randagi" greci di
Creta, Attiki ed altrove, non è un amico. Non degli animali e
nemmeno della verità. E' semplicemente stupido.
Concludendo:
- non sono a favore dell'esport di animali per destinazioni ignote.
Se accadesse legalmente non potrei prevenirlo o vietare altri amanti
di animali a credere che sarebbe l'unica soluzione per salvare
randagi. Non mi piace nemmeno vedere cani scheletrici sul pavimento,
correndo agli angoli delle strade e vegetando d'estate in una
taverna.
- Non sò quale possa essere la soluzione migliore. Solo solo questo.
Senza le prove della destinazione finale, senza un meccanismo di
controllo che registra il viaggio di ogni singolo animale, senza un
procedimento legale, senza verifiche, senza collaborazione, la mia
sfiducia corre a livelli allarmistici. E la mia coscienza mi obbliga
a chiedere sempre di più per cui , non come altri, mi spiace, a
diventare vittima delle mie buone intenzioni e con la speranza di
sollievo quando verrà fuori la verità.
- Mi scuso molto con tutti coloro su cui mi sono sbagliato e su cui
mi sbaglierò in futuro, nella mia ricerca della verità.
Voglio collaborare con tutti, amanti degli animali, attivisti e non
per scoprire insieme. Ma non sarò soddisfatto con buone intenzioni o
rassicurazioni di terze parti. Non senza prove. perché ho captato
un odore. perché non lo lascerò scappare. Perché come ho scritto
nel primo K9 parecchi mesi fa, sono un cane.

Rescuers, Saviours and Know-it-alls
We find ourselves at the outbreak of a war whose only victims are
the stray animals.
And suddenly the gates of hell opened.. Animal welfare organizations
who regard the export of animals to European countries as almost the
only road to their salvation, threaten (and urge those who share
their views) to lay charges against their 'opponents' - the 'opponents'
being all those who have serious doubts regarding the final
destination of strays , based on (also very serious) indications
which a journalist - not to mention the government - cannot ignore.
All right folks put you sword back in its sheath. I'm also from
Crete but I don't react in such a manner. If you want to paint the
picture of animal welfare with the flags of war, handing over the
strays in such an obvious manner to the true enemies of animal
welfare, those who will rightly say tomorrow 'Leave them mate they
are killing each other with their in-fighting', I am sorry but I
can't accept it. If on the other hand you want to plan an attack
against our animal eating citizens with their poisonings, their
abandonings and their shelters for illegal financial gain, then you
will find me beside you in the battle and let me have hear the
unrestrained abuse ..
I understand the disgust of those who have paid out of their own
pocket and from their souls to save nearly dead dogs. I sympathise
and suffer with those who offer voluntary work and grimace at the
sight of the state who appear late on the scene like a post Christ
prophet in order to collect the awards now that the strays have
become a news item of the first order and offer opportunity for
attention and votes. Eighteen years in this line of work and I have
seen this scenario repeated with such a lack of originality that it
makes me yawn. However...
I am not an activist. I don't beat people up. I don't make anonymous
threatening phone calls, I don't break laws and I am not involved in
darkly secret operations
My bosses are not involved in activities which make money from
animals and more important, I don't hate those who do the same work
with me even they have better results. Especially if they present
better results
Teach children to love animalss
I believe that the only solution to the problem is to teach children
from their early tender years to love animals, as afterwards it is
too late and to protect with armour plate the new law, which may
have more holes in it than Ementhal but is the only civilized
starting point and I forbid myself not to exploit it.
In regard to the subject of export [of animals] to Germany, Belgium
and wherever else, my position was perfectly clear from the
beginning (there you are, you put me in the position of writing like
a politician.): the two countries have a dirty record in regard to
animal protection. And both maintain laboratories for experimental
animals (this is no secret), and both operate illegal circles
diverting strays for this purpose. In its statement to the European
Committee for animal experiments, Germany was the one who submitted
false data to hide the fact that experiments on their turf increased
dramatically instead of being reduced over the last years. In
Germany, theft of domestic animals has increased so much that the
subject has become a major political discussion point. Do you wonder
where all the stolen animals go to? To new, "sponsor" families: I
don't very well believe that. Germany has such strict laws in regard
to the collection and euthanasia of stray animals that are not
adopted that the shelter in Hamburg has earned the title of "death
camp". The majority of animals who leave the shelter alive are
adopted by Austrian families who are so concerned about the subject
that it has made their news bulletins.
In regard to Belgium, there is a small matter pending with the
European court because it made the widest use of the exceptions in
the European Directive published with the aim of reducing
experimental animals. Forty Euro MPs from all member countries made
the accusation, presenting a conclusion which states that in the
country's experimental laboratories 50% of the experimental animals
are animals bred for the purpose. The remaining 50% are 'undeclared".
Guess what this means. Let your imagination run wild.
A Scottish Euro MP visited a furrier in Holland and without
revealing his identity, asked where the original pelts came from.
The salesman 'entrusted' him with the information that they were
from cats and dogs. "The Germans are our friends" says Dimos
Starenios in the heroic films of the [German] occupation. That may
be. The journalist, however, who doesn't wonder aloud why our
friends don't adopt their own stray dogs to save them from pentothal
and who go to so much effort and expense to import Greek "vagrants"
from Crete, Attiki and elsewhere is not a friend. Not of the animals
nor of the truth. He is simply stupid.
In conclusion
. I don't agree with the export of animals to suspect destinations.
If it happens legally I cannot prevent it or forbid other animal
lovers from believing that it is the only solution to save the
strays. Neither do I enjoy the sight of skeletal dogs on the
pavements, run over on the edge of avenues, begging in taverna yards
in summer.
. I don't know what the best solution is. I know only this. Without
proof of the final destination, without a checking mechanism for
recording the travel of each individual animal, without legal
processes, without verification, without collaboration, my mistrust
increases to alarm levels. And my conscience forces me to ask more
and even more so that I don't become, ? am afraid, like others, the
victim of my good intentions and the wish to sigh with relief,
appeasing the problem temporarily at the expense of the truth.
. I humbly apologise to all those I have wronged and to those I
shall wrong in the future in the search for the truth. I will
co-operate with anybody, animal lover, activist or not in order to
find out together. But I will not be satisfied with the good
intentions and reassurances of third parties. Not without proof.
Because I have caught a scent. Because I am not letting it go.
Because as I wrote in the first K9 many months ago, I am a dog.
